Friend cards
- Link didn't openCopy the complete link, open CruiseMesh, choose Add a friend, and paste it.
- Card looks incompleteSome messaging apps cut long links short. Copy your friend's whole message and paste it on the page the link opens, or into Add a friend in CruiseMesh. A complete card includes text beginning with
CMFRIENDafter the#. - Confirm the personCompare the four fingerprint words on both phones before messaging.
Shore Pass setup
Shore Pass was called Cruise Pass until August 2026. If your purchase email, your receipt, or the Settings screen on your phone says Cruise Pass, it's the same pass and everything below applies. The screen is renamed in a later app update, so a phone that hasn't updated still shows the old name.
- Setup link didn't openCopy the
CMRELAY1card from your purchase email. In CruiseMesh, open Settings → Shore Pass, paste it, choose Review, then Test and use. - Card looks incompleteCopy the full setup link or all text beginning with
CMRELAY1:. An incomplete card is rejected before saved settings can change. - Phone is offlineAfter reviewing the card, choose Save and check later. CruiseMesh will verify it when the phone is online and will not show Ready before then.
- Setup card rejectedReplace the card with the one from your latest purchase email. If that card is also rejected, contact support without posting the card or token.
- Pass expired or suspendedCruiseMesh shows these separately from a connection outage. Renew an expired pass, or contact support for a suspended pass.
- Set up another family phoneOpen Settings → Shore Pass on a configured phone, then choose Set up another phone or Show setup QR. This configures internet delivery; it does not add a contact.
- Shore Pass not syncingOpen Settings → Shore Pass to see whether the pass is working, waiting for internet, expired, suspended, or needs attention. The syncing phone needs internet access — on a ship, that's usually one phone with a Wi-Fi package.
- Need technical detailOpen Connection details from the home screen menu to see active paths, per-person history, recent activity, and the Share diagnostics option.
Data charges
- Will CruiseMesh run up charges on board? No. CruiseMesh never connects your phone to a network and never uses the internet without you setting that up yourself. Joining the ship's Wi-Fi network is free on every major cruise line; charges only start if you buy an internet package. CruiseMesh uses the ship's Wi-Fi as a local network to pass messages between phones, so you don't need a package or a login, and nothing gets charged.
- Recommended setup at seaTurn on airplane mode, then turn Wi-Fi and Bluetooth back on. Airplane mode shuts off cellular, which is the radio behind the surprise roaming bills you hear about: "cellular at sea" connects on its own and bills by the megabyte. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are free to use.
- Heard about surprise $500 cruise bills? That kind of bill is almost never about Wi-Fi. It comes from cellular roaming at sea, which devices join automatically. Airplane mode prevents it entirely, and CruiseMesh is designed to work exactly that way.
- Shore Pass and data ratesShore Pass uses whatever internet your phone already has. If that's a ship internet package or roaming data, your normal rates for that internet apply. Shore Pass itself adds no charges, and everything else in CruiseMesh works without any internet.
